We choose beautiful and interesting rooms and cleverly designed furnishings by talented interior designers and brands that are changing the way we live, and we present them to you, the reader, to inspire and delight. Our homes, after all, are our castles. We are not and should not be defined as humans by the places that we live, but there is no denying that it is our instinct to surround ourselves with beauty in our living spaces. Whether that takes the form of streamlined, clean edges in modern spaces or rooms filled with overstuffed chairs, embroidery, and saturated color, our personal choices in our rooms make a difference in our lives. Hopefully, they impart a sense of calm and comfort. At their most successful, our interiors can give us a feeling of security and offer a way to decompress after long days. For this issue’s cover, we chose a beautiful room in an Irish home designed by Suzie Mc Adam. It’s cozy and warm, but also intriguing, with its monochromatic palette of teal blue. The eye is fooled. Is it traditional or is it modern? This tension makes the ornate, historic details that much more interesting—and pleasing. As the cold weather approaches, I love the idea of curling up in that armchair with a volume of Irish poetry and a cup of tea, or a dram of something warmer. As always, we hope our pages inspire you to create some cozy corners and creative details in your own rooms. True style is in the details, and those details are intensely personal, and wonderful to behold.
