What do you do with an unused garage in the back of your home? Well, if you are a member of a piano conservatory in Los Angeles, you hire designer Kevin Klein to transform it into a mini concert venue, complete with a bar, stained-glass skylights, and a custom chandelier that hangs over a conversation pit upholstered in Mongolian lamb fur, from Mimi London, through David Sutherland. The space opens fully to the outdoors, where an inviting pool and landscaped gardens await. The centerpiece, a custom Bosendorfer concert piano, takes pride of place. Klein says, “There is an obvious element of playfulness to the space that is seemingly contradictory to a high-end, old-world-inspired piano club, but that is exactly what the client wanted.” photography by stefan merriweather
